I remember that cold, overcast evening well..
Outside my grandfather’s the wind howled through the treetops and the heavy rain was pounding on the windows, while I sat in his favourite armchair and watched the merrily dancing tongues of flame in the fireplace.
To this day I can still feel that safe natural warmth, calm, the smell of burning wood and the taste of the delicious hot chocolate my grandmother always made me in a big red mug.
My grandfather Anthony was a stove fitter, and as far back as I can remember he was building stoves and fireplaces.
Whenever I didn’t have school, I was helping him with small jobs.
I loved it, because I knew that I was helping to make something very good. Also, I could always count on another mug of sweet hot chocolate.
My friends told me what they would be when they grew up: policemen, firemen, soldiers, doctors, astronauts, etc. I wanted to be like My Grandfather. I wanted to build fireplaces.
After graduation, I worked with him. He taught me things like meticulousness, attention to detail, and how to use tools.
He taught me that what we did was more than just build a fireplace, we created a place for the whole family to meet, and one in which you can just sit alone to watch the fire and dream.
A home fireplace full of primeval magic.
I thought it would be always like that. Unfortunately, after several years Grandfather began to have health problems, the world changed and the work changed as well.Satisfied customers continued to admire the quality of fireplaces but it was getting harder to get the orders.
More and more often I began to ask myself: Who needs a fireplace in the era of central heating?
Two years passed by but, despite my insistent attempts, our situation did not improve and I began to lose faith in what I was doing. I decided that I had to do something.
The Internet and new technologies such as for Wood Burning Stove Instalators helped me.
Ads on the web and uploading photos on various internet portals gradually brought me new business. Once more I had new satisfied customers, who in turn recommended me to others. The tables turned.
I bet on development. Part of the newly earned money went to professional courses like the HETAS Certificate of Compliance.
I invested in modern tools and technologies such as Rotary Power Sweeping SnapLok.
To keep up to date with current trends, I regularly participate in training courses and trade fairs like NACS in Stratford-Upon-Avon – nacs.org.uk, etc.)
Several years have passed since then. My company MK Solutions is still growing, and I get to do what I love – build classic and modern fireplaces for successive satisfied customers.
In my line of work, the classical is always battling with modern styles, but in the end the winner is always a love for beauty.
I welcome you to familiarise yourself with our offer.
